The Sääski project |
||
The work on a copy of N.40 (V.L.Sääski) is making progress: a long time search for a suitable engine are finally at an end (almost). Last year we did some ![]() relocating in the workshops. This delayed the project somewhat. But in spite of this we have made significant progress in the works. The wings, elevator,ailplane, fin and rudder are now ready for covering. Last year we put down a lot of work making the floats. I may not show much, but we have also done a lot of work on the construction of the fuselage. Most of the metal fittings are also made, and we are in the progress of constructing the longerons. After a long-time search we finally had some luck in obtaining the engine for the Sääski. Some days go we received from a wooden crate from Finland, containing three cylinders, the three parts of the crankase, the mounting plate and a lot of smaller parts. The cranckshaft and the remaining cylinders are in the works from a contact in Germany, and we have high hopes that they’ll emerge later this year. Anyway, we can now start on the preparation of the engine. Thanks to some great work from our friend from Hämeenlinna, Finland, Mr. Harald Tandefelt, the problem of finding a suitable engine seems to be at an end. This year we have taken a big step towards the completion of N.40 “Måsen”, and in due time you may see the “Måsen” in the museum!
